Time Out for the Daily Sports Poem

We know how much you fans of sport and verse rate us
But the Daily Sports Poet has to go on indefinite hiatus.

We will return in the future, we can confidently report,
When we have time to sit and watch the required volume of sport.

Until then, supporters of poetry, we send our thanks to you.
If you're desperate for a sporting rhyme; add a comment, we'll see what we can do.

Short Poem on the Continued Adventures of Michael Sam

I support Michael Sam unequivocally.
I wish to make that clear.
But this media frenzy surrounding his life
Is unlikely to help his career.

Analyzing Michael Sam's Draft Stock in Verse

The inevitable bile from bigoted puritans
Falls on deaf ears of an SEC All-American.

Courage is a word that's overused,
Coming out proudly, knowing you'll be abused.

For teams looking for leaders Sam's selection makes sense,
His ESPN interview redefines confidence.

Ireland 26, Wales 3: Instant Analysis in Verse

The champs dismantled by Ireland's rolling maul
A tactic for which they had no defence at all.

The Dawn of the Sochi Winter Olympics

I shall not be watching the Olympic Games in Sochi.
A paean to a dictator is not the occasion for me.

Evaluating the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014

Congratulations to every new Pro Football Hall of Famer,
Although the honour now seems markedly lamer

As each year's selection requires a credibility disclaimer
With the continued omission of Jerry Kramer.

Super Bowl XLVIII: Peyton Manning’s Media Week

A week of endless adulation
Ends with stark humiliation.

The writers claiming “Best QB ever,”
No longer feeling quite so clever.

“I called him Number One, back then?
On further reflection, I meant Top Ten.”

The post-loss downgrading, a true sports shame,
Knowing how much he has given the game.

France 26, England 24: A Review in Poetry

French Flair
(And the substitution of Danny Care)
Answered Gallic prayer
For English despair.
